Some love stories happen quickly. Others take fourteen years, a few island summers, and a perfectly timed New Year’s Eve to unfold.
Rush and Olivia met at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and were instantly captivated by each other. At fifteen, they found every reason to stay connected, even while attending different schools, Rush at Milton and Olivia at Duxbury. Rush was making his mark as a lacrosse player and club leader at Milton, while Olivia brought spirit and warmth to Duxbury through cheerleading and babysitting.
High school included more than a few late night adventures, sneaking out to walk along Duxbury Beach or wander Bay Farm together. The night before Olivia left for college, she insisted on a late night drive alone. Her parents worried she might be somewhere feeling overwhlemed about the big transition. Instead, she was skipping along the beach at midnight with Rush.
Early in college, Rush visited Olivia at Salve Regina, where the two walked Newport’s Cliff Walk and “broke the internet” among friends with a photo of them holding hands. They wondered what their future might look like and how the other might fit into it. As much as they might have loved to start dating right then and there, it simply wasn’t their time yet.
Over the years, their paths continued to cross, especially during summers on Nantucket, where Olivia worked as a live in nanny and Rush became an island favorite working as a “manny” and serving looks at Fresh. Through a perfectly orchestrated playdate with Olivia’s beloved nanny kids, the two spent their summers feeding ducks, eating ice cream, and making some of their sweetest memories together.
Years later, Taylor Swift unknowingly played matchmaker when Rush asked Olivia for Eras Tour advice. She showed up with a custom outfit and a friendship bracelet, what Rush now calls the day his future wife walked through the door.
Not long after, Rush invited Olivia to the Levitate Music Festival, and the long awaited run into the sunset moment finally arrived. From that night on, they have spent nearly every day together, even navigating three months of long distance when Olivia traveled to Australia, FaceTiming daily and sending surprise packages, flowers, and handwritten letters across the world.
Rush asked Olivia to be his girlfriend at Brant Point Light on Nantucket, and one year later, through a hurricane and every travel challenge imaginable, he proposed in the very same place, surrounded by their families.
Looking back, Rush and Olivia know their story has always been guided by something greater than themselves. At the center of their relationship is an unshakable faith in God and the belief that He carefully shaped every step of their journey to bring them exactly where they are today.
Fourteen years after first meeting, they still share the same giggly spirit they had at fifteen, and they cannot wait to celebrate the next chapter with all of the people they love most.
